Rotherham United scored four goals in 14 second-half minutes against Manchester City's Under-21s on a night when Premier League clubs suffered in the EFL Trophy.

The Millers ended as 4-2 winners after the visitors had run-up a comfortable two-goal lead at the New York Stadium before the interval.

Mahmadou Sangare broke the deadlock after just three minutes before England Under-20 international Charlie Gray added a second.

However, Matt Hamshaw's side fought back with Shaun McWilliams' penalty kick cutting the deficit 10 minutes after the break, and the match was levelled when Josh Ayres struck moments later.

Joe Powell put the hosts in front before Sean Raggett rounded off the scoring following a breathless spell.

Arsenal's Under-21s side also suffered, losing 4-3 at Exeter City.

Charles Sagoe converted early on as the Gunners got off to a flier.

That goal separated the sides at the break but Josh Magennis sparked a rush of six goals in the second half.

Harrison Dudziak restored the visitors' lead before Jack Aitchison pegged them back once more.

Osman Kamara gave Arsenal fresh hope - only for Magennis to grab his second within 60 seconds, and Luca Woodhouse set up Jayden Wareham for the winner three minutes from time.

Barrow managed to get their first points in the competition as they saw off Nottingham Forest's Under-21s with two second-half goals.

David Worrall gave Andy Whing's side the lead just after the hour and Innes Cameron made the game safe with a second in added time.

Aston Villa's Under-21s have not enjoyed this year's competition and they exited without picking up a point after Leyton Orient made it three wins from three to progress from Southern Group F.

Richie Wellens's side had Diallang Jaiyesimi to thank for the only goal of the game 12 minutes from time.

Luton Town fielded the experienced Jerry Yates against Brighton & Hove Albion and the forward's two-goal first-half contribution was crucial in a 3-1 win over

He struck eight minutes before the interval and then grabbed a second from the penalty spot.

Noel Atom reduced the arrears with 16 minutes to go - but Finley Evans put the result beyond doubt as Jack Wilshere's side progressed to the next round.

Cheltenham Town continued their rally under Steve Cotterill, although they had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur.

Josh Martin gave them an early lead with a rising left-foot shot after five minutes only for Oliver Irow to convert from Yusuf Akhamrich's low centre 20 minutes later.

Tommy Taylor restored the Robins' lead before Rio Kyerematen equalised in the final seconds.

However, Cheltenham won the game 3-1 on penalties to secure an extra point.

Another League Two club that secured a bonus point was high-flying Walsall as they eked out a goalless draw with Chelsea.

The Blues' Under-21s enjoyed the better chances on the night but could not find a way past Mat Sadler's men who won 4-2 on penalties.

The only club from the top-flight to emerge victorious was West Ham United who had to work hard to earn a 3-2 victory at Swindon Town.

Joshua Ajala made the breakthrough for the Hammers in the 25th minute thanks to help from George Earthy, who then got on the scoresheet himself just before the break.

Billy Bodin set up Paul Glatzel for Swindon's first of the night only for Josh Landers to give the visitors' breathing space.

Glatzel added a second but West Ham saw themselves over the line despite a late incident in which Joel McGregor was dismissed for the hosts with Luis Brown also seeing red deep into stoppage time.
