Semi-automated offside technology was not available during the first half of Brentford's 2-0 win at West Ham due to the mass Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage.
The match started without the equipment, with the Premier League stating that the game would use the technology later in the game if it was able to run successfully.
Ahead of kick-off, the Premier League Match Centre posted on X: "Due to the impact of today's global AWS outage, this evening's match will begin without the use of semi-automated offside technology (SAOT).
"If required, the VAR will use virtual offside lines, as in previous seasons, to determine an offside decision. If SAOT becomes available during the game, it will be implemented when appropriate."
Deep into first half stoppage time, Brentford had scored a second goal through Igor Thiago, but it was later ruled out for offside.
Because of SAOT not being available at the time, the check took longer than usual, as lines had to be drawn by the video assistant referee, as used in previous seasons.
Despite the lack of SAOT, the correct decision of offside was still reached.
Ahead of the start of the second half, the Premier League posted on X that the technology was able to be used for the remainder of the match, saying: "SAOT is now in operation for this fixture".
