Former Hibernian defender Darren McGregor will miss out on playing in his own testimonial match after being involved in a road traffic accident last week.

McGregor had surgery and Hibs wished the 39-year-old "a speedy recovery".

He retired from playing in 2023 and moved into coaching at Easter Road after eight years as a Hibs player. He previously featured for St Mirren and Rangers.

Hibs face Bolton Wanderers in McGregor's testimonial on 19 July.

"It's with sadness that we can confirm that Darren McGregor won't be able to play in his testimonial match against Bolton Wanderers next month," the club said.

"McGregor was involved in a vehicle collision on Friday evening (20 June, 2025) and is now recovering after undergoing surgery at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

"Whilst 'Daz' can't feature in the match, he will still be able to attend with the game commemorating his fantastic career.

"McGregor will meet supporters inside Easter Road Stadium and in the hospitality suites, alongside walking out on to the pitch for an interview to thanks Hibs fans for their support."
