Wardley moves up at heavyweight after KO of Parker

Fabio Wardley's stunning comeback knockout of Joseph Parker on Saturday shook up the heavyweight rankings.

Wardley found the same magic he needed for his come-from-behind knockout win against Justis Huni in June to stop Parker in the 11th round. Although the nature of the stoppage was controversial, Wardley needed to dig himself out of a hole against Parker. At the time of the stoppage, Wardley was down on two of the three scorecards (92-98 and 94-96), with the third judge scoring the fight a draw (95-95) through 10 rounds.

It was a stunning turn of events as Parker recalibrated himself after a dicey Round 2 where Wardley had him badly hurt. Parker regained the momentum and was outboxing Wardley through the middle rounds, hurting him several times in the process. But Wardley continued to find his mark as the fight progressed, and his power was evident. Wardley unleashed a violent barrage of punches that rocked Parker at the end of the 10th round.

He carried that momentum into Round 11 and refused to allow Parker to recover with a sustained salvo that sent Parker into the ropes. Referee Howard Foster stepped in -- arguably prematurely -- to prevent Parker from absorbing any more punishment, and Wardley became the new WBO interim heavyweight champion and the next in line to face champion Oleksandr Usyk next year.

With the win, Wardley moves up five spots to No. 4 in the heavyweight rankings while Parker drops a spot to No. 5.

ESPN's divisional boxing rankings highlight the best in the sport in every weight class. Rankings will change based on recent results and performances. Fighters who have announced they are moving to a different weight class will be ranked in that new division, if warranted, only once they fight in that weight class. Fighters who currently own titles in two divisions can be ranked in both.

Fighters who haven't competed in the past 12 months -- and don't have a fight scheduled -- will be dropped from the rankings until they fight again. Any fighter who tests positive for a performance-enhancing substance will also be removed. That boxer will be eligible to reenter the rankings after his next bout.
